Finding Show Choir Canada’s Champion is an important task and should only be entrusted to the people who have proven themselves time and again in the arts industry. After an exhaustive search, Show Choir Canada has found four top industry experts from the world of show choir as well as professional music, dance, and theatre to assess the teams competing in the championships.

2020 Judging Panel

David Connolly (Canada) – Judge
David Connolly is the Associate Artistic Director of Drayton Entertainment where he has helmed the Canadian regional theatre premieres of “Kinky Boots”, “Newsies”, “Mamma Mia!”, “Priscilla”, “Queen of the Desert” and “High School Musical”.

Passionate about arts education, he also created and leads Drayton’s Youth Training Program and has worked as an adjunct professor at Sheridan, Randolph and Vandercook Colleges. His career includes collaborations with Katy Perry, Sarah Jessica Parker, kd lang, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber, Sarah Brightman and Natalie Portman.

As the only amputee to have performed on Broadway, David advocates for disabled inclusion in the performing arts as well as being an Ambassador for both The War Amps of Canada Child Amputee Program and The Shriners Hospital for Children. @davidwconnolly

Kathy Morath (USA) – Judge
Kathy Morath’s Broadway credits include “Joseph Papp’s Pirates of Penzance” and “Nick & Nora”. Off-Broadway, she has appeared in the role of The Girl in “The Fantasticks”, “Personals”, “The Wonder Years” and David Ives’s “All in the Timing”, amongst others. Regionally, she has played leading roles at the Guthrie Theatre, Denver Center for the Performing Arts, Dallas Theatre Center, Baltimore Center Stage, Repertory Theatre of St. Louis, the Barter Theatre, Ogunquit Playhouse, Art Park, Goodspeed Opera, Chautauqua Opera, Wolf Trap and the Kennedy Center.

Kathy’s TV and Film credits include “Law & Order”, “Walker: Texas Ranger”, “Alice in Concert”, “Hostage”, “All My Children” and “General Hospital”. Kathy recently created the role of Jodi in the world premiere of the new musical “The Bikinis” at ReVision Theatre in Asbury Park, NJ. Kathy appears on the SONY Masterworks recording of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Allegro. She has also served as an adjudicator and peer reviewer for the National Endowment for the Arts.

Previous teaching credits include, AMDA College & Conservatory, Paper Mill Playhouse, The Norris Center for the Performing Arts, The Artist’s Crossing, Sing Smart Act Smart and a private studio. Kathy spent 2019 as a Guest Artist at The Santa Fe University of Art & Design, serving as Lead Instructor in Musical Theatre. Degrees, Studies and Affiliations: B.A. Semiotics, Brown University, The Neighborhood Playhouse.

Mark Cassius (Canada) – Judge

Mark Cassius has been featured on Broadway, in the Original Cast of “Ragtime” and revivals of “Jesus Christ Superstar” and “Shenandoah”. Critically acclaimed performances in Canada, have included, Drayton Entertainment’s “Damn Yankees”, “The Little Mermaid” and “Sweet Charity”. He was also featured in the World Premiere of “Souzatska”, the Toronto Premiere of the Off- Broadway Musical, “The Musical of Musicals, (the Musical)”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” (with Donny Osmond), “Miss Saigon”, “Showboat”, “Cats” and seasons at both the Shaw and Stratford Festivals.

For eight years, he toured internationally with the world-renowned Pop/A cappella group, “The Nylons”. He has been a Music Festival adjudicator for the Kiwanis Festival, up to Provincial level in the Music Theatre category, and is a highly sought-after vocal performance coach. Since 2001, he has been a recurring performance instructor, at The Randolph College for the Performing Arts, in Toronto and has been a guest coach in many theatre and music training programs, vocal studios and recording studios in Canada and the United States. A Music Theatre Performance graduate of Sheridan College and a Graduate student in Music Composition at York University, he welcomes any journey that is taken in the pursuit of artistic excellence.

Mark Camilleri (Canada) – Band Judge

A music director, pianist, composer, arranger, accompanist, engineer, producer, contractor and conductor, Mark Camilleri’s credits include music directing world premieres of “JUKE BOX HERO” (Annerin Prod.), “PROM QUEEN” (Segal Centre), “POLLYANNA”, “QUEEN FOR A DAY” (Yonge Street Theatricals), and “THE JAZZ SINGER” (HGJTC). Other theatre credits include “THE TOXIC AVENGER” (Dancap Prod.), “THE LORAX” (Mirvish Prod.), “CINDERELLA” (Ross Petty), “FUNNY GIRL” (HGJTC), “CATS” (Numu Productions), “HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL” and “WEST SIDE STORY” (Drayton Ent.) and “BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM” (Starvox Ent.). Mark’s concert credits include music directing “THE CANADIAN SONGWRITERS HALL OF FAME GALA”, the “CANADIAN SCREEN ACTOR AWARDS”, “THE CANADIAN TENORS PBS SPECIAL”, “CANADA EH” with Steve Patterson (CBC) and has played with Il Divo, Celine Dion, Sting, Eric Clapton, Seth MacFarland, Andrea Bocelli, Paul Anka, Wayne Newton, Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan, David Foster, Annie Lennox, Audra McDonald, The Canadian Tenors, Herbie Hancock, The Priests, Johnny Reid and Jim Cuddy. Mark has also contracted many orchestras for such productions as “THE TENORS” Christmas album “Christmas Together” (Universal Records), “JONATHAN ANTOINE LIVE” (Attila Glatz Productions), “BAT OUT OF HELL”, “AIN’T TOO PROUD”, “BEAUTIFUL”, “SCHOOL OF ROCK”, “MAMMA MIA”, “THE LAST SHIP” and “LION KING”, “MISS SAIGON”, “THE BOYFRIEND” (Mirvish Prod.) and the world premiere of “SOUSATZKA” (Garth Drabinsky).

As an orchestrator/arranger, many of his works have been played and recorded by symphony orchestras and theatre companies around the world. Mark was also a featured pianist at the Pan-Am Games cultural concert and has toured as a Concert Artist for Yamaha Canada. In 2016, Mark co-founded “PODIUM Concert Productions”, bringing shows like “THE SECRET GARDEN” and “NINE” to the stage with full orchestra.

Mark also owns and operates his own recording studio “IMAGINE Sound Studios” and his Recording/Producer credits include his own CD “Mark Camilleri and the CT Project” as well as recordings with Jeff Healey, Jason Priestly, The Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Quartetto Gelatto, Marvin Hamlisch, Alan Thicke as well as various CDs for Somerset Entertainment. T.V. and Radio credits include composing and recording commercials and corporate videos for Cosmopolitan Magazine, Johnny Walker, General Mills, Microsoft, YMCA, General Motors as well as scoring documentaries for the History Channel and TLC. Mark was also part of the creative team for both seasons of “TRIPLE SENSATION” (Produced by CBC/Garth Drabinsky).

Jordan Francis (Canada) – Host and Guest Performer
Jordan Francis is a singer, dancer, actor and host who is best known for his role as Barron in Disney’s “Camp Rock” and “Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam”. After playing Barron, Jordan was invited to be the opening act on Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brother’s world tour! 

After discovering his artistic passion at the age of 7 , Jordan landed his first big break playing Young Simba in the original Canadian Mirvish Production of Disney’s “The Lion King”.  Jordan continued to train in all genres and at the age of 12 he released his first music video for his song “I Wish I” which premiered on Much Music. Jordan went on to voice several animated characters for TeleToon Network’s “Carl Squared”, Warner Brother’s “Da Boom Crew”, Family Channel’s “Franny’s Feet” and TLC’s “The Save Ums”. 

Into his teen years, Jordan made the switch to film and television landing him a guest star role as Blake on YTV’s “The Stanley Dynamic”. He also worked on “Connor Undercover”, was the YTV Host of “The Next Super Group” and CBC’s “Cross Country Fun Hunt. Addiotionally, Jordan landed song placements on “The Next Step” and the Universal Pictures film “How She Moves”.

Jordan continues to work as a multi-talented performer, song writer and producer most notably collaborating with Drake, composing and vocal arranging his hit song, “Sweeterman”. Check him out on Instagram at @officialjman !
